OK, Bill Fox is not Joe Bob Briggs of the infamous Drive In Movie Reviews, but I had to comment. I think my first statement in my satirical review is absolutely true – Tim Burton is a genius – a bent version of Orson Wells. As he moves the camera around – I thought I was watching a horror film version of Citizen Cane. Although, I don’t think any full length movie Burton’s done has equaled Beetlejuice – this might actually have topped it.
But let’s be clear – it is a sad commentary on the taste and state of affairs of this generation of teens and young adults who watch this crap. OK, so I’m a boomer and I watched it – but my guess is the demographics for this was definitely 30 and under – way under. Just what we need – minds of mush thinking this nasty little scheming brat is a role model.
When the original TV show – Addams Family came on in 1966 – based on the Charles Addam’s cartoons – it was funny and a bit weird – but I don’t think little girls and boys wanted to emulate any of the characters – their bizarre behavior was for laughs. But Burton doesn’t play this Addam’s family for laughs. Maybe a sarcastic smile or grin or two – but mostly it does what most horror stories are meant to do – scare and upset you. And I detected a little left wing social commentary making the Scout Leader and the scouts who followed his orders – total red neck losers, and turning the weird mutant like students from Nevermore Academy into sympathetic characters from the X-Men movies.
I liked the funny Addams Family better – when their strange behaviors were just absurd and humorous. But let’s face it – Zombie eating monsters as pets – eating “normies” for fun is just not that funny. Here’s my Joe Bob version – a review of Netflix’s top show, Wednesday:
Tim Burton is a genius – essentially a very bent Orson Wells – beautifully done special effects and nasty looking monsters, and just what teens of questionable social skills need who aren’t already lacking in any sense of right and wrong. Katherine Zeta Jones is so hot but a little too much lip stick – Thing – the hand steals the show – the supporting cast – especially the little evil girls were every serial criminal’s fantasy and little Wendy has absolutely only one expression – never boring- which might have won Kamala the election if she learned how to just do nothing – Buscemi should lose the mustache – because it almost makes him look like a “normie” – I just wish there’d be some more skin but overall – tons of gore and excellent zombie brain eating – Joe bob says 4 stars – check it out…
