Rand Paul just gave us a really good reason to change the way we pass bills in Congress. Paul just added an amendment to the Corona Virus Bill that will delay passage one day. Bills should be single topic – PERIOD! This foolishness is exactly why there is so much pork and corruption in DC – though Paul no doubt is serious in his desire to extricate us from this endless war in the ME – but even that should be a separate bill. This is life and death – speed is important. Gohmert was right that we should read the damn bill, but they would not need to waste so much time reading a bill if it was clear it was a single issue. When you throw in so much pork and special interest, no wonder fiscal conservatives and social conservatives want a closer look. That would be unnecessary if we made bills very specific and single issue.
Gohmert was a patriot for asking Reps to read the damn bill – but Paul is a fool for wasting precious time holding up the bill with an amendment that has zero chance of passing. I think we should pull out of Afghanistan too but let’s focus on this first. Sometimes you wonder if these brilliant Senators are so consumed with their own personal agendas and seeing their names in the news that they have zero regard for the people they think they are helping. As I see it Trump and his team are well on their way to pulling out of that hell hole – but we are nowhere near getting through this virus debacle.
