I have a novel idea – how about Students’ Unions instead of Teachers’ Unions? Then perhaps there wouldn’t be so much hand wringing when a Republican Governor makes a simple factual statement. That poor governor of Missouri, like too many politicians who aren’t yet woke, made a politically unpalatable statement – although it is demonstrably and unequivocally true. The illiberal left quickly jumped on Gov Parson when he said that even if the kids get the Wuhan Plague, they’re “going to get over it…These kids have got to get back to school”. Oh, my he really stepped in it with that one. The media shedding crocodile tears, “How dare he put our children at risk!” they cried. But go ahead and try to contradict the facts as we know it. We have strong evidence that anyone under 17 does not easily get this Wuhan plague and almost zero die if they do get it. In fact, several times more children die from flu than this Wuhan plague and last I checked, they never shut down schools for the flu. The other fact is that those Western countries that do not have a presidential election have virtually ALL opened up their schools. I hope that one day we will convert Teachers’ Unions to “Students’ Unions” who do NOT have ANY affiliation with either party. Education should have choice and be focused on students, not teachers and the Democrat Party. Virtually all teachers’ union political donations, (which may in fact be the largest single donor group the Democrats have) go to Democrats which limit school choice, Charter Schools, vouchers etc. all things that have been shown to IMPROVE test scores and student achievement. Get rid of Teachers’ unions and their unholy relationship with the Democrat Party and the students will thrive. But I’m not holding my breath for any real reform as long as we have teachers’ unions and not Students’ Unions.
