“I heartily accept the motto, — ‘That government is best which governs least’; and I should like to see it acted up to more rapidly and systematically.”
“The character inherent in the American people has done all that has been accomplished; and it would have done somewhat more, if the government had not sometimes got in its way.”
“It is not desirable to cultivate a respect for the law, so much as for the right.”
Thoreau said it best: “That govt is best which governs least.” I like the sentiment of the quote that essentially says it is better to respect what is “right” rather than just the “law” – but I think good laws – where ever you find them must be upheld, followed and respected. But in the age of lawlessness, or Lawfare, weaponizing laws to damage your political opponent – I couldn’t agree more with Thoreau’s sentiment.
There is one party that has spent nearly a hundred years developing crony socialist money laundering schemes with payback to those who vote for them, and it appears its entire reason for existence is to grow Government: The Teacher’s unions that have failed our children; The Healthcare System – NIH – and those who funded gain of function research in China that gave us Covid – and then proceeded to lock down the country and scare free people into submission; Trial lawyers and the Judiciary that has used the courts to intimidate and harass free people – and even targeted the POTUS. Of course, Doge scares them. And it scares the Yahoo media – or what’s left of it – that lies and propagandizes for them.
