What does Jeff Bezos stepping down as Amazon’s CEO mean for small businesses and third-party sellers?
While the move follows a similar pattern of founders/long-time CEOs transitioning into executive chairman roles, it marks the end of an era.
Retail is part of Bezos’ DNA – he started Amazon initially as an online bookseller and has maintained a focus on retail even while developing other arms of the business like AWS. Amazon’s role as the predominant e-commerce platform in the U.S. and a massive global player will not change, but its internal focus and product development could.
Amazon has faced criticism and an antitrust investigation into its predatory practices toward third-party sellers. Incoming CEO Andy Jassy came up through cloud services and it’s a lucrative business that will only continue to grow. This could very well be a turning point for Amazon as it looks to start a new era and turn the page on the scandals that have marked the final years of Bezos’ tenure.
What do you think this means for retailers? Are you concerned about this move? How will Bezos’ era as CEO be remembered by retailers?
Not complicated. Bezos is like most of the successful nerds in SV – a petty tyrant at his core…These tech weasels have bought off the politicians of both parties and now rule the world. Not an exaggeration. Who is going to stop them? They just proved they’re more powerful than any president of the US – essentially by censoring one candidate and ensuring their candidate would win. I know those who were brainwashed by the Media to hate Trump are happy now, but wait until this Monopoly and Oligarchy of tech tyrants puts your company out of business or you’re forced to work for peanuts for Bezos to sell your trinkets. The petty socialists running the EU are shaking in their boots. Retail? The guy wants the world! And those of you who can feed the beast will get a bigger share, but the proles will get crumbs and when it reaches critical mass, the little get together at the Capitol will pale in comparison to what happens when the pot boils over. The puppets in DC know this and that’s why they need fences, razor wire and troops. Does this resemble a functional democracy or a Banana Republic? A Banana Republic with more guns than people is a scary thought. Yes, they can run but my guess is they cannot hide.
Unless Govts around the world put pressure on these tyrannical Oligarchs like Bezos, essentially Bezos will become the 21st Century version of JD Rockefeller – only much more powerful. AWS with help, collusion from fellow Oligarchs at Google-YouTube, Apple, Facebook, Dorsey, Zuckerberg, Cook to name a few, just made sure that Twitter no longer has any competition by de-platforming Parler, which after Trump and most influential Conservatives have been banned or censored on Twitter, was growing at an exponential rate to the new social media site. That couldn’t happen. So the Tech Tyrants colluded, of course saying they weren’t, and put Parler out of business giving them no ability to compete. No, Standard Oil at its most greedy zenith could never have gotten away with that. In Europe, there is some pushback and fines, but it is only a matter of time, until the one world socialist utopian vision wins the day. In the name of so many absurd far left dreams – Climate Change, Transgender rights, Fighting “structural racism” – the West will turn into one tyrannical dystopia. Right now, with the Tech and Media Tyrants in charge of the US government, every day the country moves closer to resembling the dystopian hell described in 1984 and Animal Farm. I’ve just re-read 1984…Doublethink. Reality Control. Yes, we have elected representatives and members of the CIA using the “crisis” at the Capitol as pretense to form lynch mobs (as Rahm Emmanuel said – “never let a good crisis go to waste” and the illiberal left never does), comparing the mob that stormed the Capitol with al Qaeda and ISIS. So we must seek out all those “white supremacists” – the enemy within. A NY Times columnist actually recommended that Biden appoint a “reality Czar” to correct all the “disinformation” coming from Conservatives. Oh. That essentially is the equivalent of Orwell’s “Newspeak”. If Big Brother and the Mistry of Truth doesn’t approve of certain thoughts or “information”, it is labeled “disinformation” and erased from the lexicon. Do these fools realize what they are doing? Freedom of Speech is the first to go in any tyranny. And unless the elected cowards grow a back bone it will be up to the people to fight for that right – essentially the way we had to fight for it in 1776. Is that where it’s all going or do we simply morph into the hellish vision of 1984?
