Justice Clarence Thomas and Donald Trump are two men with power in this government with courage and common sense. While we have a new Justice that can’t tell you what a “woman” is – we have another Justice on the the high court that will tell you exactly what and who the existential enemy to America is. Yes, Clarence – progressives – but I would go further and call them Marxists. They have entered into an unholy alliance with virtually all of our obvious economic, cultural and ideological enemies: Iran, N. Korea, China – and yes, Russia. I have hope that in a sane U.S. government over time – we could have at least as good a relationship with Russia as we have with the floundering feckless EU. Yes, I put Russia and the EU in the same bucket. After the fall of the Berlin wall, the EU and the US squandered the opportunity to align with Russia. Instead it chose to poke the bear in Ukraine – rekindling the cold war. But clearly Russia is not the existential enemy today that a nuclear Iran run by an autocratic death cult that chants “Death to America” is, or a China that clearly is a much larger threat both economically and militarily to America.
Thomas is spot on. You do not have to be religious to understand that when you substitute man for “higher being” – that Man can become a Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, and any number of other mass murderers. Yes, there are theocratic tyrants – but they have come from that religion/cult that does not separate Church and State. And the biggest tyranny of all is the tyranny of the Majority. I have news for those who have not studied history of the ancient Greeks and Rome like our founders, they feared the tyranny of the majority – Democracy. That’s right – democracy that is constantly repeated over and over to describe America is not what makes America exceptional. Pure democracy has always failed and leads to anarchy and chaos – which is essentially what we are going through today. It is our Divided representative govt, our Declaration, our Bill of Rights that makes us exceptional among nations past and present. Thomas wisely notes that Supreme Court precedents are not “gospel”. As the only conservative person of color on the court, Thomas is probably only too aware of the Dred Scot decision that legalized slavery, or the later Plessy ruling that legalized segregation. The court has a long history of getting it wrong. No doubt Alito and Thomas will be the only two members on the court that will find the common sense – not the “precedent” to end Birthright Citizenship – that was clearly meant only to provide citizenship to the newly freed slaves – not become a way for any grifter – whether south of the border or China – to use this out dated law to infiltrate and take advantage of our country – when literally only the US and Canada of all advanced nations allow Birthright Citizenship. Our founder and framers – especially Madison, Jay, Hamilton who gave us the Constitution – gave us a Republic – not a pure democracy. Franklin warned – We gave you a Republic if you can keep it. Yes, we have enemies outside of our borders. But the Marxists calling themselves progressives – THEY are the real existential enemy to the survival of this Republic.
