I found this on Linkedin.com – According to Otaviano Canuto Nonresident Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution, Trump Tariffs Have Hurt U.S. Manufacturing Jobs. Hmm…nice cartoon, but where’s the evidence? Right now, the economy is looking good and manufacturing has improved slightly under Trump. The BLS has mfg. flat for the next few years with perhaps a slight decline. The reality is that something structural had to be done with China or we’d ultimately lose our entire manufacturing base. Tariffs combined with putting together a better Mexico Canada trade deal will help. Avoiding the TPP will help. Staying out of Paris fake climate deal will help. It will take a decade or more to undo the decades of Nafta Shafta and other bad deals. Trump is an easy target but if academics want to find the real villain for losing mfg base to China and others they should look at all the high level Govt officials on the take from China – and there are many more than the $1.5 Billion PE that Hunter, the coke head, kicked out of the Navy, got the job because his father was VP – and also try looking in the mirror. Trump is doing what should have been done decades ago.
