El-Sayed, appearing on Yahoo Finance’s The Ticker explained that most hospitals are “run as a business” and make the most money “on elective procedures. When you’re facing a global pandemic, you cancel those elective procedures.” There is a real problem with El-Sayed’s point of view. Nobody could have predicted the consequences of This Pandemic. It is unprecedented. True enough during a pandemic that shuts down the entire economy, people lose their jobs including some hospital workers who do elective procedures. But tell me how my ophthalmologist and her nurses are going to be on the front line for this virus pandemic anyway? Make all hospitals govt owned and that will only exacerbate the problem. Is the answer to make all hospitals govt funded? Tell me how that works. Long lines. Waiting for procedures until a mild condition becomes a serious one. The usual scenario you get in a totally socialized healthcare system.
No one has ever seen the system completely shut down like this, and yes, some for-profit hospitals are going to lay off personnel that do elective procedures. But guess what, the entire economy has been shut down and there are around 20 million people unemployed, maybe reaching 30% of the workforce only weeks after we had a 3% unemployment, and small businesses like restaurants and small shops may never recover, so tell me how making all hospitals govt owned is going to solve that problem.
As it turns out, our federal and local govt has done a pretty good job of making up for the inadequacies of the system that left the shelves bare of strategic PPP, ventilators, etc. Rational people will conclude that the real villain is China and the WHO that lied about the virus and spread it around the world and they go after for-profit clinics? Cuomo doesn’t store enough PPP and ventilators and it’s for-profit clinics fault? Obama doesn’t prepare for a pandemic by stockpiling and it is for-profit clinic’s fault? Obamacare raises deductible’s so high they’re afraid to go to the hospital and there are people who are without insurance – except for Medicaid and emergency room visits – and it’s for-profit clinic’s fault? Globalists move supply chains to China and it’s for-profit clinic’s fault? I could go on…no, it’s Trump’s fault. Huh?
