Elon Musk is on a new crusade to rid San Francisco of the plight that is the Woke and very Corrupt Democrat politicians who are destroying the most beautiful city in America. Not an opinion. A fact. Of course, he’s right, but good luck Elon! You still have the Uniparty one party tyrannical rule in Sacoftomatoes (I think Herb said something like that in one of his three dot extravaganzas renaming the state capital). From budget surplus to massive debt, failing schools, LA and SF in total crime ridden disarray – but never fear – a redistribution of large money from the few people left who actually pay taxes in California to blacks (of slave heritage so that leaves out Bill Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama if they were to decide to move to California to collect another fat check from tax payers). Don’t see how a non SLAVE state could justify “reparations” for a Civil War over 150 years ago, but hey, the sheep keep paying billions in taxes to the corrupt Dems to build bullet trains that never get built – but somehow these same pols and their homes and private jets somehow get made and paid for…so anything is possible in the former golden state…
The city, Baghdad by the Bay, is about a third Gay, a third Orientals, and probably less than a third white. The Media, this POTUS and the Education System have brainwashed most everyone who hasn’t moved to Florida, Utah, Nevada or Texas – and sadly most SF voters – to believe that the real problem is White Supremacy – when of course, everything that is great about the city that wasn’t given to us by God – who gave us the Golden Gate Bridge and the iconic Bay Windows of the homes, the Pyramid, and the great domed Civic Center, Palace of Fine Arts – City Hall, War Memorial Opera House and Davies Symphony Hall…were built by predominantly White males of European heritage…
Orientals who have been targeted by homeless people of color – are starting to realize that the Dems are not their best friends – though many minorities like Jews and Orientals have voted Democrat more out of tradition dating back to fat cat check pants Republican days than actual benefit…Today the actual fat cats are Hollywood moguls and adolescent billionaires in Silicon Valley like Zuckerberg of Facebook who spent about $400 million dollars to make sure all the votes harvested in 2020 were for Democrats and Brandon… and though Republicans in SF are rare…since they moved out to the Burbs or out of the state, Conservatives and Independents are what’s needed to give REAL Diversity to what Herb Caen called Baghdad by the Bay…when Baghdad was a beautiful city before our reaction to 9-11 and the “war on terror” turned it into a bombed out mess. I guess it applies even today – yes, San Francisco is still Baghdad by the Bay…a mess.
This may be the best distillation of why Herb gave SF the label of Baghdad by the Bay. It had little to do with the physical characteristics of the city, but both were special places. To a modern journalist pecking away on his Royal typewriter in 1951 – allusions to far away Arabia – and 1000 nights – was most likely why Herb gave us this term – and also, alliteration. Flaming Florentine Flounder…(from one of Neil Simon’s plays)… Karl Breckinridge, 2015: “Caen drew his analogy based upon lifestyle, not the cities’ appearances or geography. Caen’s San Francisco was a wild, wide-open city in 1951, a town with colonies of a dozen ethnic regions that lived by their own cultures unabated, a dozen tongues spoken each morning on the 38-Geary bus line on the way downtown to work, not unlike a commute in Baghdad. Fugitives from other climes who lived less-than-savory lives were left alone, so long as they didn’t cause any problems to either city’s other residents. A large Bohemian presence thrived in both cities. And both cities had an unsung tolerance, ranging to an admiration, for their diversity and colorful characters, many of the colorful rising to high places in Baghdad, and respected, if not exalted, in San Francisco. Remember, Caen coined the nickname in the 1950s; San Francisco perpetuated its no-holds-barred Barbary Coast district for a century after sailing ships gave up the ghost, and Emperor Norton endured as a local character well into the ’70s. (And note the fabled “Barbary Coast” appellation itself is of Arabian flavor…)
The problem today in SF is that the tolerance that gave us one small bad district of druggies – the Tenderloin – but the rest a gloriously magnificent city, is now spread throughout the entire 49 or so square miles. Tolerance was accepted as long as the “good” people of SF were not infringed upon. Today, needles, feces and urine in the streets, high crime – the favorite being drug addicts and petty thieves breaking into parked cars are everywhere in the new Baghdad by the Bay.
I even had my car broken into during a night at the Opera, supposedly protected in the Performing Arts Garage located next to both the War Memorial Opera House – my girl friend’s cathedral of worship (Ballet for her, Opera for me) – and Davies Symphony Hall. SF still is only one of three US cities with World class Opera, Symphony and Ballet – but the old guard (mostly “evil white supremacists”) that built this city and supported/supports the arts are dying off. I guess it is up to the good Billionaires like Elon of moderate and sane political persuasion, to take this glorious city back from the Barbarians and the Democrats. Here’s to Herb hoping it happens!…
