Just found out that Denzel Washington’s Othello on Broadway is charging $1,000 per ticket. What? I mean I get the inflated prices for the super Bowl or some other limited event – but $1,000 for Denzel and a not very good Jake Gyllenhaal (according to Brian Cox – a respected and established Stage and Film actor). Brian was not too happy. Maybe it was just the lousy performance by Gyllenhaal or the ticket price – he didn’t say.
But it does appear that the good old days where the family could go to a affordable major league baseball, basketball or football game – or play – is now officially over. Was it Bidenflation or Covid or is this just evidence that the left and their Marxists who call themselves Progressives have finally won? Their goal was always to destroy the middle class and replace it with compliant serfs in order to achieve their worker’s paradise and Utopian idea of shared poverty. And until Trump pulled off the upset, it looked like with Biden and Obama is was all but assured. But I’m not sure Trump, common sense and a sane America isn’t just a short lived bump in road for the Marxists who are really in charge. And things for free may pay off the serfs and welfare cheats who don’t care about seeing a live event and are fine with their iPhones, TicTok, and poisonous fatty fast foods – but going to a ball game or a play should be something most of us hard working schmucks that used to think we were solidly middle class or greater should be able to afford.
Yes, I get that Denzel’s Othello is a short run gig – and the hoity toity in NY with deep pockets will be the only ones able to cough up the grand for a ticket – but it does make me side with Brian Cox on this one. There is something wrong when there aren’t affordable seats for the middle class anymore. And it is getting that way in most NFL, MLB, NBA venues. Let’s see. Average price for LA Lakers game in the playoffs – $483.54. Let’s say take two kids and the wife – family of four. Cokes and dogs – about $50. So, for only about $2,000 a family of four can see an LA Laker’s basketball game with a hot dog and coke. Such a deal. Nah, this deal sucks!
Denzel is a great draw as Othello – but let’s face it – only the ultra rich are going to these events – and it’s getting that way in sporting events as well – the serfs are to stay home and watch TV with their dips and chips. Be happy because today being middle class in America is really nothing more that being just above poverty level with a new iPhone.
